Daan van Doorn illustrates charcoal advertisement for hamburger lovers 11-13-2019 (17:54) – Everyone loves burgers, but real burger lovers prefer a real charcoal grill. Gourmet burger restaurant Mad Grill in Madrid bakes no differently than on charcoal and that’s why SuperHeroes created an outdoor campaign for the opening of their newest branch. The expressions are illustrated with the same charcoal that Mad Grill bakes the burgers on. SuperHeroes asked painter Daan van Doorn to capture the hamburger with charcoal. Van Doorn specializes in still lifes and portraits and is known for his hyper-realistic portraits of Queen Beatrix and composer Philip Glass, among others. The outdoor advertisements are placed in metro stations in Madrid. Niek Eijsbouts, creative director at SuperHeroes: “In this time of flattened marketing, we are always looking for better ways to get attention for our customers. A handmade illustration like this one brings an ad to life. As with hand-painted murals in cities like New York, people are more aware of this. They recognize the authenticity and the love that has gone into it. And so it is with Mad Grill’s craftsmanship when it comes to their burgers. “
